Ten-Year Roof Resident: Massive Python Crashes Aussie Woman’s Bedroom

For a decade, a massive scrub python quietly called the roof of Trina Hibberd’s home in Mission Beach, Queensland, its own. But on Monday morning, the 5.2-meter reptile—affectionately known as Monty—decided it was time for an upgrade.

Hibberd awoke to a surreal sight: Monty slithering across her home, stretching from the lounge room right into her master bedroom. In the process, the 40-kilogram python managed to flick on a light and topple a lamp—adding a bit of drama to its uninvited entrance.

Snake-catcher Dave Goodwin quickly arrived on the scene to wrangle the giant intruder. In a daring move, he coaxed Monty into coiling around his forearm before maneuvering it into a large plastic home-brewing jug.

“It was choking my arm to death,” Goodwin told the BBC, describing the moment he finally secured the powerful creature. “When you get too close, they let out this deep, guttural gurgle—as if to say, ‘Back off.’”

To get the upper hand, Goodwin initially used snake tongs to grab the python near its head, prompting the defensive coil that allowed him to safely capture it.
