Famous Actor Passed Away ‘Suddenly’ At Home Leaving Family In ‘Shock’

Hip-Hop Pioneer Gene “Groove” Allen Passes Away at 63

Gene “Groove” Allen — rapper, actor, and beloved member of the influential hip-hop group Groove B. Chill — has died at the age of 63. His family confirmed he passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday.

A Bronx native and early trailblazer in the hip-hop scene, Allen rose to fame with unforgettable roles in classic films like House Party (1990), Boomerang (1992), and What’s Love Got to Do With It? (1993). After his time on the silver screen, he remained a creative force, lending his voice to radio and voiceover projects.

At the time of his passing, Allen was actively promoting the highly anticipated 2025 House Party Immersive Tour, continuing to champion the culture he helped shape. Just days before his death, he shared what would become his final Instagram post — a snapshot of him joyfully performing at a party, captioned simply, “I ain’t playin’.”

Tributes from across the music industry have poured in, with legends like DJ Premier and Eric B. honoring his legacy and impact.

Allen would have celebrated his 64th birthday on February 26. His presence and passion will be deeply missed — but his groove lives on.
