PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – A chaotic chain-reaction crash involving seven vehicles brought Interstate 5 to a standstill Tuesday afternoon, leaving multiple people injured and two in critical condition.

Emergency crews from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVFR) rushed to the northbound Nyberg Street off-ramp around 4 p.m. after initial reports indicated that one car had flipped over, trapping its driver inside. When Tualatin police arrived moments later, they discovered the situation was even more serious—another person was also trapped inside a separate vehicle that had landed on its side.

Firefighters quickly sprang into action, using struts and shoring equipment to stabilize the mangled vehicles and safely rescue both individuals. Both victims were rushed to nearby hospitals in critical condition.

Meanwhile, occupants of four other vehicles sustained only minor injuries and declined hospital treatment at the scene.

The Oregon State Police has launched an investigation to determine what triggered the multi-car collision. Traffic in the area was severely impacted for hours as emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage and restore order.
