Her longtime publicist confirmed the news, stating that Swit died of natural causes. A cherished presence on screen and a passionate advocate off it, Swit leaves behind a legacy of talent, compassion, and groundbreaking television history.

Swit starred in MASH* from 1972 to 1983, where she masterfully evolved Maj. Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan from a one-note comic stereotype into a layered, formidable, and deeply human character. Over the show’s 11-season run, she earned 10 Emmy nominations and took home the award twice—cementing her status as a trailblazer for women in television and redefining what a female role could be in primetime drama and comedy alike
