Trump Makes Big Move In SNAP Funding
Presidential Response Praised
A federal judge in Rhode Island commended President Trump’s handling of SNAP benefits,
calling his action “greatly appreciated.” Judge John J. McConnell Jr. wrote,
“The court greatly appreciates the president’s quick and definitive response to this court’s order and his desire to provide the necessary SNAP funding.”
SNAP Payments at Risk
About 42 million Americans rely on food stamps.
McConnell ordered the USDA to deliver full November benefits by November 3
or partial payments by November 5,citing the need to use contingency funds.
He added, “In fact, the president during his first term issued guidance indicating that
these contingency funds are available if SNAP funds lapse due to a government shutdown.”
Legal Challenges
In Boston, Judge Indira Talwani called the SNAP suspension “unlawful,”
requiring continued payments amid a government shutdown.
Political Reactions
Pollster Matt Towery said Democrats’ attempt to politicize the program is backfiring.
He noted a shift among young voters: “There’s a slow shift… the country is beginning to shift.
And I think it starts with the youngest of voters,
the ones who are having to get out there and make money and find jobs.”
