Progressive TikTok ‘Star’ Gets Crushe

Progressive influencer Deja Foxx was crushed in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District, losing by more than 40 points to
Pima County Supervisor Adelita Grijalva.
The Associated Press called the race early, with Grijalva securing 62% of the vote to Foxx’s 21%.
Grijalva, daughter of the late Rep. Raúl Grijalva, entered as the clear favorite with backing from Sen.
Bernie Sanders, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Arizona’s Democratic senators.
Foxx, a 25-year-old TikTok figure with nearly 400,000 followers, had endorsements from David Hogg and the PAC “Leaders We Deserve.”
Foxx’s Campaign Falls Flat
Foxx leaned on her “lived experience,” citing her upbringing in Section 8 housing and early activism on abortion rights.
She raised over $670,000, mostly from small donors, and tried to build momentum through social media. It wasn’t enough.
“I couldn’t be prouder of what we built together,” Foxx said,
calling her campaign a movement that “shattered expectations.”
But as one critic bluntly noted on X: “She lost by 40.”
Grijalva’s Advantage
Despite similar platforms—Medicare for All, environmental justice, tribal sovereignty—voters chose the Grijalva name.
Decades of local roots carried weight.
“This is a victory not for me, but for our community and the progressive movement my dad
started in Southern Arizona more than 50 years ago,” Grijalva said in her victory speech.
Progressive Battles in New York
Meanwhile, progressives are eyeing primaries in New York. Allies of Zohran Mamdani,
a democratic socialist assemblyman from Queens who recently won the city’s Democratic mayoral primary, are weighing challenges against House Democrats, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
