Hours before his death, the Rhode Island judge posted a video on Instagram where he asked his followers to pray for his health. Caprio, who featured in the Emmy-nominated show ‘Caught in Providence’, was suffering from pancreatic cancer. ‘

“I’m coming to you again asking you to remember me in your prayers once more,” the Caprio said in the Instagram video. “So I ask you again if it’s not too much that you can remember me in your prayers.”

The 88-year-old had been providing regular updates on his health to his 3.2 million followers on Instagram. Known as one of the kindest judges in the United States, Caprio served at the Providence Municipal Court in Rhode Island. It is in reference to this court that his show was named ‘Caught in Providence.’

“Judge Frank Caprio passed away peacefully at the age of 88 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer,” a statement posted on Caprio’s Facebook page read. His son also confirmed the judge’s death.

Frank Caprio’s Cancer Battle

Frank Caprio announced in 2023 that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in an emotional video posted on social media. He had revealed that he was being treated for cancer in Rhode Island and in Boston, Massachusetts.

He followed it up with an update on his condition in 2024 when he said that he had completed radiation treatment.

“After my final radiation treatment Baptist Health Cancer Care Baptist Health, I rang the bell and am on my way to happy days!” he had said, emphatically. He had also posted a photo from the Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute after the milestone. He also announced a book earlier in 2025.

His health deteriorated recently, and he was taken to the hospital. The videos and posts from the hospital bed were shared on his social media accounts late on Tuesday. Shortly thereafter, his death was announced.
