Homeowner Turns the Tables on Armed Thieves in Late-Night Confrontation
CHICAGO — A late-night attempt to steal a catalytic converter turned deadly after two alleged thieves were caught in the act by a vigilant homeowner.
According to police, a 44-year-old man was sitting on the steps of his home in the 2900 block of North Wolcott Avenue around 11:12 p.m. Wednesday when he heard a suspicious noise. Investigating the sound, he spotted two individuals underneath a vehicle, apparently trying to remove its catalytic converter.
When the suspects realized they had been seen, they reportedly opened fire on the homeowner. But what they didn’t know was that their intended victim was armed as well. The homeowner returned fire, fatally shooting one of the suspects in the ensuing exchange.
What are your thoughts on this dramatic turn of events? Should more homeowners be prepared to defend themselves?
